Re-Write Your History

When we have painful experiences which are hard to let go, or when past trauma seems to covertly rule portions of our lives, or when we’ve made mistakes which we wish to do over, we can do an exercise which I call “rewriting history.”

In writing, describe the past experience which you wish you could change, but create and describe the experience based on how you want it to go instead of how it actually went.

If you made a mistake, give yourself a do-over; and make new choices which are in-line with your current values, morals and who you authentically are. If something bad happened to you, create an empowering way to deal with that situation and to get out of that situation. And so on.

I have used this method numerous times in my own life. Positive results happen almost immediately. My perspective on my present life changes for the better. This exercise inspires me to create different options and tools for dealing with situations that I hadn’t been able to think of while being in the mental loop/trap of the real circumstances; and I can apply those options and tools to my current life. I become aware of the power I have to create a better life, to do better and to be better; and I get motivated to take action in that direction.

Give it a try.
