Who is Off Limits for You

It’s important to define people who are off limits for yourself pertaining to friendships and partnership. Knowing this information about yourself will help you to know when it’s okay to go deeper with a person, and when to stay on the surface and keep the person at arms-length. This, in-turn, will help you to steer clear of emotionally-toxic and dysfunctional relationships and interactions.

Define people who are off limits by determining

  1. traits that you know do not work for you, and

  2. traits which do not allow for you to be vulnerable and trusting.

Below are some examples traits of people who are off limits. What would you add to this list?

  • Unaware of reasons for choices and actions

  • Lack of self-awareness

  • Lack of goals

  • Lack of desire to learn and grow

  • Slippery

  • Secretive

  • Lying by omission

  • Lying

  • Non religious or spiritual

  • Attention-seeking

  • People-pleasing

  • Compartmentalizing
