Red Flag: ‘Everybody Does It’

So many times I have tried to have trouble-shooting discussions with people I’ve known, thinking that the people would understand and relate to me and my perspective.

Instead, I found these same people’s ethics, morals and axioms allow for choices and actions like

  • Lying

  • Lusting

  • Flirting

  • Hiding

  • Compartmentalizing

  • Magical thinking / Denial / Fantasy / Dissociation

  • Self romances

  • Disloyalty

  • Secret relationships

  • Not making committed relationship known to others

  • Smear campaigns, character assassination and gossiping

  • Shape shifting and changing based on who is around

  • Complying with unethical instructions and trends

Instead of relating to me, coming from the same sense of reality, those people basically said “Everybody does [pick any or all items on the list above].” As if I was the one with the problem for being bothered by any and all of those things.

In the past, I tried to essentially teach morals and ethics to such people just to get to the point where we could have a deep, relevant discussion—including feedback I’d actually find beneficial . Now I know that anyone who defends such behaviors and choices is definitely not my kind of person.

Do need to talk with someone who is Pro truth, Pro reality, Realist, Genuine, Sincere? I’d love speak with you.
